Perfect Sundays

Sunday was a good day. We have been so busy since getting her so we had our first lie. We left our hotel at 10am in search of breakfast. However, we didn’t realise that loads of places are closed on Sunday and after 10 minutes of walking around Moshi we were at a bit of a loss. Then like the start of all the best days it began with a random encounter.

(I totes crossed this log and only almost fell in)

We bumped into our new friend Adam who told us about a good local place that was open. The food was particularly good, we had a dish called chipsmyey. Which are chips and eyes, I mean eggs. An omelet with loads of chips in it, weird but sooo good. We also had this amazing tea called chai masala, it was milky and had cinnamon in it just so yum. The best thing about this all was the price it cost 76 pence for a full amazing breakfast. We then did a quick bit of shopping in the market buying fruits and presents and getting some amazing deals and thoroughly confusing the locals in the process.

The monkey forest was recommended by a few people, the day was still young so we checked it out. It was a bit of a walk so we got a taxi to the entrance. Our taxi driver tried to get us to call him to pick us up when we finished: “This place isn’t safe for Muzungos (Foreigners)”. We just nodded, told him we would be ok and left (I have become savvy to the ways of taxi drivers now).

(Where I fell in)

The forest was so gorgeous and we had a lot of fun spotting the different monkeys. On the way out we decided to take a different route. The result was that we got lost, saw a few HUGE spiders and I massively fell into a rice field (twice) temporarily losing one of my slippers in the process. Rice fields are much deeper than they look and I had to scrounge through LOADS of mud to find my slipper. The rice fields were endless but after about 30 minutes of having to walk very cautiously on the mounds in between them it came to an end. At last we were standing on solid ground again, but still very much lost. We came across three local ladies sitting under a tree briefly resting (they were carrying timber on their heads). It turned out they were heading back to town so we walked with them. We got to the road and then the taxi driver who dropped us off at the entrance of the monkey forest drove past us:

“Hello my friends, hello I am here again!”

I started laughing at the absurd coincidence of it all. He then weirdly drove off without waiting for us. So we hitched a ride back to town. I apologise to whomever my next sentence offends :p. But we had the best Indian meal I have ever tasted, seriously the best ever!! We went into the restaurant in all our muddy glory and no one batted an eyelid. I love Africa!

The perfect end to an amazing day.
